COLETTE PERSONALITY ☑

One would expect that the person who was to go on a journey to restore the world and ultimately save it from ruin as someone who's poised, graceful, and generally someone who gives off a mature aura in their presence. However, to much the disbelief of many who meet her without knowing who she is, Colette is the exact opposite of this in a few aspects.

For starters, to those who are close to her, she's one of the biggest airheads you can meet. She's clumsy and always tripping on something or nothing at all, Colette is pretty much dangerous to her own being and this is probably no understatement considering everything else she does. But, first, let's concentrate on her airhead aspect. One of the things you notice when talking to Colette is her seemingly "no worries" approach. She's generally the one in the group aside from Llyod that attempts to be positive despite the circumstances they face. Along with that she's also the type who'll attempt to comfort a friend and try to cheer them up mostly just through talking to them. Plus a lot of people like to point out that no matter the topic when Colette comes into the conversation it always somehow managed to go off topic into something entirely. Thus, ultimately, on first impressions Colette gives off the impression of a generally all around nice and cheerful girl.

But, despite how it seems, she is actually quite mature underneath it all. Because she grew up taught and raised about how she would eventually sacrifice herself to restore the world, Colette had to grow up a bit quicker than most kids her age. Her birthday was never actually celebrated as the day of her birth but as another year passing till she would go on her journey, become an angel, and then ultimately give up her life. But, Colette being Colette, accepted her role and did her studies diligently and it shows through how she can answer any questions asked of her about the journey and how she had learned the Angel's Language. And, well, it also helps that she had Lloyd and Genis around who were the only people who treated her as a person and not as the "Chosen". It was through Lloyd especially that she came to decision that she would sacrifice herself so that Lloyd and her friends could live happily in the restored world.

Now this is where the real problems regarding her come in. As mentioned before, Colette is kind of self-destructive to her well being and that's not just limited to her clumsiness. Have you counted the number of times this girl apologizes? She practically apologizes for every little thing even if it isn't something that needs an apology. In fact, because of how she has a kind heart and loves her friends, the world, and basically wants to get along with nearly everyone? It's an understatement to say she's a "a bit self-sacrificing". She's willing to die for the world and she hides behind a smile to act as if there's nothing wrong to the point that she can act "overly cheerful" as commented on by Genis. She doesn't want to worry her friends so she doesn't tell Lloyd and the others about how when she releases the Towers seals on her journey, she loses more human aspects of herself. Her ability to taste, her sense of touch, to be able to sleep, and even her ability to speak at all. She even mentions how her other senses get enhanced, though, most notably is the fact that she could now carry a man twice her size with ease.

However, despite this, Colette wished to continue her journey even it meant that she would stop being human at all. Why? Because, like mentioned before, she loves Lloyd, her friends, and the world that they live in and wants them to be able to live peacefully in a restored world. She even comments on how she had the courage to finish her journey because Lloyd had been there for her and it made her very happy.

Thankfully, as the game progresses, Lloyd saves Colette and ultimately she regains her human senses while still retaining some of her powers as an Angel. But, the problems don't really end there just yet. Because she regained her human self this basically means that Colette gave up her journey and chose to live over restoring the world. She lives with this guilt even more so when the city Palmacosta gets destroyed and the Chosen is blamed for this for failing her journey.

There's even more proof of her "failings" when it's revealed that Colette body had started crystallizing because of her Cruxis Crystal, Colette panics when Lloyd and party see and comments on how disgusting and gross it is because it's proof of her "sin" in failing to restore the world properly. Eventually, though, Lloyd teaches Colette that no one in the world is born to die and that they are born to live. Through Lloyd she realizes how if she were to die that there are people in the world who would be sad if she died, She realizes how her attempts to be selfless were actually selfish as her life isn't just her own but it also affects Lloyd and the people around her.

At this point, Colette matured to the point that she's no long so selfless that she would sacrifice herself or willingly put herself in a situation where she has to die. From Lloyd she learned that there's always more than one way than just dying for the world.

"Even if I lose my body, my heart will still be free. So I want the world to become a happy place, just like my heart desires."

She still says things like this when questioned by someone about it because she truly wishes for a kind and happy world. But, even Colette admits that if it really came down to sacrificing herself she's pretty sure she wouldn't be able to do it.

Do you think that mean she's no longer an airhead? Nope. She's still Colette in that it's already in her nature to be a cheerful girl. She still loves helping people who are in need and doing whatever is in her ability to help. She still loves making friends and is even the type to openly say, "That makes me so happy!" when someone does something for her (even if they weren't necessarily doing it for her.) And she's still the type to befriend someone who was previously trying to assassinate her. Overall, Colette is a kindhearted girl that loves helping people, her friends, and dogs. Gotta love them dogs.

It should also be noted that Colette is actually kind of self-conscious about certain aspects of her appearance (ex. her chest size.) And in another skit when she's talking to Llyod about "pretty girls", Lloyd comments on how he thinks Colette is pretty which makes her happy... Up until the point he also starts listing off the other girls in the group at which point Colette gets angry and leaves.
