SERIES: Little Busters! [Wikipedia]
• Just a note for the mods, this is a SPOILER, but the wiki is incorrect at explaining a few key points to the story of the VN. The Artificial World was created by everyone in the Little Busters! group aside from Riki and Rin who are the lone survivors of the incident. It was not created just by Kyousuke alone as they all had reached an agreement to work together to help Riki and Rin learn to be strong enough to live on without them around since the two of them have a huge codependency on the group. However, it is implied that Kyousuke had the strongest will over the Artificial World more so than the others. In the wikis, defense however, the girls do not exhibit any memories of the promise except in certain circumstances. Kud's route being a prime example since one of the climax points of her route involving her talking about the field trip that Riki has no recollection of since in the Artificial World the students that had gotten into the accident were in another school.

TVTropes
• Admittedly not the best resource but it has a few things that the Wiki fails to mention too. Also, once again, SPOILER warnings.

CANON POINT: Post-True Ending!
APPEARANCE: [1] [2]

PERSONALITY:
For starters, Kud is extremely naive. She is so naive that she can't help be trusting towards what is taught to her. She doesn't really have the foresight to think that someone has bad intentions in what they tell her unless it blatantly hurts her or bothers her. Thus when she realizes that what she was taught is false it's usually a bit too late for that. An example being, when she asks a friend to teach her how to be cool. The friend thus teaches her to start all her sentences with the Engrish version of "Goddamn" that it takes until the point that it scares off her friends that she realizes it sounds like she's threatening someone with the way she starts the sentence. However, this naivety of hers goes so deep that it also makes her oblivious to a few things that go on around her. A prime example of this being innuendos that are clearly on purpose. They go completely over her head as it'll sound like a completely normal sentence to her. It also doesn't help when it makes her completely oblivious to her surroundings too when someone comes to tackle her into hugs and or if she accidentally runs into someone when she isn't paying attention to what's ahead of her. Her general reaction time is extremely slow which is why she's often the one that's targeted by the others in games like tag or fake sword fights.

She's also extremely curious. Once she hears about something and doesn't get a proper explanation for it she'll remain curious about for the remaining time. She might even pester the person to explain it to her. However, in one instance when she finally got the answer she had longed for, she regretted it greatly. But, then there's the part of her that's simply just curious because she worries about others. For example, when she spots a young girl by herself she goes to ask the girl what she's doing to see if she's okay. Ultimately, Kud's curiosity doesn't have any bad intentions behind them even if sometimes they lead to unfortunate results.

Add onto that Kud's outgoing personality. It shows in her speech when she gets extremely excited, shocked, nervous, and so forth that she ends up speaking faster than she usually would. When she was rooming with Rin, who is extremely antisocial and shy, it's due this aspect of her that had made it difficult for them to become friends at first. Let's not forget that Kud is someone who loves making friends while Rin in contrast is scared of most people she isn't familiar with. When it's not required to sit properly or the situation calls for her to act properly, Kud is always one to running about energetically even if she's not exactly the most physically strong person around the block. She always greets people energetically and she usually if not always has a smile on her face. And, really, it's not that hard to make her happy either. The smallest things can make her happy like spending time with her friends and even just giving her new roommate a key chain from her personal collection.

On the up side, she doesn't let her energy stop her from having good proper manners and etiquette. She apologizes when she needs to, she says thank you when she feels she needs to show her gratitude, and despite her slightly foreign origins Kud also knows proper Japanese etiquette. An example of this being when she invites Riki into the Home Economics clubroom to show her thanks to him and prepares tea for him. Kud has pretty good hospitality skills.

But still Kud has a childlike innocence to her especially when you see her playing the Shadow game where you can only move around by stepping on shadows. Or when she's playing Frisbee and surprises you with her great catching skills. She also enjoys closing her eyes at vending machines and randomly choosing a soda because it makes it exciting.

The only problem here, though is that all these traits make Kud an extremely bad liar. Kud's the type of person whose emotions show clearly on her face. When she's scared, when she's bothered by something, and when she's happy. That's why it's really not that difficult to guess when she's lying or trying to avoid something. She'll quickly try to salvage it as best as she can but usually it ends with her own failure. But, at the same time, she's extremely easy to please. Seriously, this is the girl who goes "Gahhhhn" when she's shocked or "Dokidoki..." when she's excited. It's not that hard to read her. Don't expect her to hold onto a strong poke face for long, really. On the upside, it shows how honest of a person she is especially when it comes to her friends.

In her route, Kud has to return to her home country after her mother, a Cosmonaut, rocket launch failed and her country is soon sent into a state of civil war soon after. Eventually upon her return, Kud is caught by rebels in her country place blame on her mother and those involved with the rocket and is imprisoned as a sacrifice. When she manages to escape from the prison it shows that she still has the will to live. The will to go after her own dreams. The will to be with her friends.

Now, let's go into how and why this is something really important to Kud.

To start off, it should be noted that Kud lacks a huge amount of confidence in herself. Starting from her physical traits to herself, Kud is rarely one to speak confidently about herself and is the type of person who needs that push and support when it comes down to capabilities.

For instance, Kud is actually really smart. The only subject she doesn't do well in being English which is due to her seeing the language as some sort of Alien code in her head. It's also noted that Kud was able to skip a grade due to her own abilities and she shows a preference to writing essays. Her inability to read English also stems from the fact that her grandfather mostly grew up teaching her Japanese and Japanese culture due to love for the country. She doesn't blame her grandfather for this, though, she blames her own incapability to learn English. She doesn't believe herself to be smart. This lack of confidence is also what stops her from following her own dream which is to be a cosmonaut as she believes she would never be able to become one. This is doubled when the other students in the school around her enjoy treating her like a strange interesting toy due to her heritage. Kud being three quarters Russian and one quarter Japanese she doesn't have the appearance of a Japanese girl. Thus when she shows more knowledge in Japanese culture such as knowing its history very well and even carrying around her own pair chopsticks for meals in the cafeteria due her preference. As Kud says, the lunch lady compliments her diligence in this but others find it strange for a "foreigner" to do such things and laugh about it.

Then, let's go a bit into her physical traits, while Kud was growing up she wanted to just be like her mother. One thing she admired about her mother is her black hair. That's why while as a child Kud thought that if she tried eating seaweed all the time then her hair would turn black and naturally this never happened. But, when one of the senpai in her school say, "You shouldn't eat so much seaweed or your hair will turn black!"

Despite that it does hurt her, Kud doesn't believe that anyone in school has any cruel thoughts or intent toward her. She doesn't believe there's anyone in the world who is truly malicious and thus doesn't get angry or blame anyone for how they speak to her. Rather, she feels they can't help but speak about it because it's something "interesting" to them so it can't be helped.

This brings us to this: Kud does her best to always work up to the expectations of the people around her. Even if she can't completely do it, she tries as hard as she can. This is why Kud spends a lot of her time trying to speak English despite not being able to speak the language properly. She's what you could call a good girl in that she has very few selfish things that she actually wants. As Kud loves the world around her and she's grateful to the world for its existence since it was thanks to the world that she is able to be with her friends.

It doesn't really help that Kud grew up extremely lonely. Despite how much she loves her mother as mentioned, Kud never really ever saw much of her while growing up. Due to her mother's work as a Cosmonaut she was usually constantly moving and thus her whereabouts were usually unknown to everyone even her own family. Kud herself was raised only by her grandfather that of whom she does love dearly but at the same time they were always constantly moving. This left very little time for Kud to make friends wherever they lived which ultimately led up to her finding most of her friendship in the dogs that she grew to love. This is added onto the fact when she finally settles back into Japan for a while most of the other students treat her like an exotic toy that they don't really know how to approach as a normal person. That's why when Kud is allowed to join the Little Busters she's finally able to find the friendship and company that she mostly lacked while growing up.

It's thanks to this friendship that we're shown one of rare times Kud actually gets bothered and angered by the actions of her fellow students when they involve her friends in how they treat her. She doesn't mind being laughed at herself but if you laugh at her friends then that's when she won't be happy. This shows how deep Kud's loyalty goes.

Incidentally, it can be said that Kud having been imprisoned is symbolic of how she views herself especially with how most of the girl's routes are the embodiments of their deepest wishes. The prison being representative over Kud's feelings toward her life. Kud mentions in the prison that she has become the gear that moves the world by giving up her own life for it to move. This is parallel of how Kud tries to be the things people expect her to be such as speaking like a foreigner, trying to make her family proud, and doing things for others in hopes of making them happy over herself.

Her escaping from the prison thus represents how Kud has come to want to live for herself. She still wants to be someone who can make others happy as she loves the world that she lives in but she also wants to be able to live for herself for those she loves.

By the end of the game, we're not told outright whether or not Kud retains this development in the real world. But, as the visual novel's purpose is the growing and development of the characters, it is hinted at that some of it is retained. She still has her habit of lacking confidence in herself in the things she does. She still wants to improve her English as it's one of the language requirements to become a Cosmonaut. She still wishes she wasn't so small and short. And, really, in general she just wishes she could be more collected, cool, and calmer. But she at least doesn't think that she needs to place others opinions and expectations over her own and that she can live for herself now too.

PS. Don't even wish for more than what you have body wise near her, girls. She actually does experience a comedic breakdown when one of the girls wishes they could have bigger breasts, said girls breasts already being one of the larger ones in the group of girls already, to which Kud says, "Instead of wishing for more then why don't you try being my size!?" It's a hard knocks life for someone as tiny as Kud.

ABILITIES:
Kud is a perfectly normal human being. She isn't extremely physically strong although it is noted in that canon that she is capable when it comes to playing games like catch. Aside from that, she's just your average normal girl. But here are some things that she shows being skilled in through out canon.

• Cooking. She grew up only with her grandfather and a bunch of pet dogs so Kud's the one who did most of the house chores. Cooking being one of the most notable as it's a slightly important plot point in her route. Incidentally, once again due to her grandfather's influence, Kud shows more skill in cooking Japanese meals than anything else. Her favorite dish being Kombu which she even showed the cafeteria workers in school how to make.

• Catching. She grew up playing with puppies and dogs a lot in her childhood. They were her only playmates while growing up and because of that she seems to developed a great amount of skill in catching things. This is the why they allowed her to join the baseball team in canon as she caught all the baseballs they threw at her with ease.

• Hospitality/manners. Her grandfather also raised her to be capable in being hospitable. Mostly in the way a Japanese household would do so. This is one reason she developed mannerisms most similar to someone being born into Japanese culture. Kud is also one of the characters that shows most effort in trying to show gratitude to others where it is due as well. Basically, being rude on purpose is probably impossible for this girl.

• Intellectually smart. Despite how it might appear on first appearances, Kud is actually extremely smart for her age. She's noted in canon as being one of the smartest in studies amongst the main characters. She usually gets good grades and she even managed to skip a grade. The only subject she shows being lacking in is English. This is mostly due to her grandfather having only ever exposed her to Japanese culture growing up and also because she can't help but see the language as gibberish in her mind.

POSSESSIONS:
• Her clothes (her school's uniform, along with the hat and mantel that she made herself.)
• Her keychain collection.
• Her flashcards for English phrases and words.

>PERSONA
MAJOR ARCANA:
High Priestess: The arcana that can represent hidden wisdom and untapped power. Intellectual speaking, Kud is surprisingly smart if judged her on appearance alone. Especially when you learn that she's already skipped a grade in the first place thus making her the youngest one amongst the cast. She even notes her preference of writing essays over the way the Japanese school system gives out as tests. She dreams of being a Cosmonaut which is entirely possible considering how knowledgeable she is in the area. She worries over this, though, because English is one of required languages to be able to speak to become one. It's shown, though, how Kud is capable of learning English perfectly fine it's just that the language mostly seems alien to her.

Star: A card that can be associated with generosity and peace and joy. All Kud really wants in the world is to live with her friends and family in happiness and peace. Even if someone hurts her, she won't believe that the person did it with malicious intents towards her. Always willing to always treat others with kindness even if it's just a small thing like making them tea if they're tired.

Lovers: Originally, the Lovers could also represent the cross roads between decisions that one must make. In Kud's route, the biggest turning point is when Kud must choose between staying in Japan with her friends or returning to be with her family in a country that's currently in civil war. This decision chooses whether or not Kud will be left to grieve in guilt for abandoning her family or if she can overcome her own obstacles and have the confidence in herself to do so. The card can also represent romantic relationships where one of the things that helped Kud find the strength to escape from imprisonment in her route is her love for Riki.

SHADOW:
Kud's Shadow would be everything that she wished she could have been. Its presentation having the appearance of Kud as a girl with average height for someone in high school, black hair, and a more mature body. She would have a much "cooler" personality and speak in perfect English. But, when confronting Kud, she'll whine about everything. About how hard her life is and how everyone expects her to act and speak like a foreigner based of their prejudice views. Also about how lonely she is without her family around and that they're all more focused on their work than spending time together. All of this would ultimately lead up to Kud's denial of the Shadow due to her inability and dislike towards speaking of how she truly feels.

Once denied, her Shadow will turn into two huge gear of sorts. The Gears will be ever revolving protecting a glass ball in the middle of it. The Glass ball containing a chained up Kud in the middle of it.

The dungeon would start out at the school grounds from the Little Busters world. The first few levels being this traveling from outside pass the dorms, pass the baseball field, all the way deeper into the school building. Eventually, once passed it would lead you to one single level that is seemingly in the woods where the characters would find a horrible accident site of a school bus. In this area there will be the distinct smell of gasoline in the air until exited. After this area will be the final area which will seem like a dark, open field with the stars shining brightly in the sky.

Due to Kud's being the Scanner/Support type her Shadow's attack skills will reflect upon this. Along with a few self healing spells at that. She would be that one boss you want to punch in the face so bad while playing the game. However, if you can get pass her defensive skills and so forth, Kud's shadow is actually extremely weak physically wise and would be easy to beat. The few attack skills it has being Ice based such as Bufu.

PERSONA:
Zorya [2] the Morning Star.

"Defend me, O maiden, with your veil from the enemy, from the arquebus and arrow..."

The Morning Star of the Goddesses being chosen to represent Kud as the Morning Star is the Goddess that protects people in battle. Kud was one who wants to be able to live up to the expectations of those around her and protect those expectations. And now she has the courage to live for herself a bit more and for others as well. It's also fitting because of her Russian blood and her dream to be a Cosmonaut.

It would be a Scanner/Support type to reflect that the Morning Star goddess had been one that defended warriors that prayed to it and also Kud's wish for her own friends safety and happiness.

Her Persona's appearance will take on that of something a bit similar to her Shadow. The rotating gears and glass ball in the middle of it will be retained. However, instead of being trapped inside, the Morning Star will be sitting on top of the glass ball. Kud will also be inside the glass ball during scans.

PERSONA ACQUISTION:
As Kud has already technically faced her darkness in her canon, I would like it if she could have her Persona from the start!

>SAMPLES
(For panfandom apps, one of these must be set in the world of Caligo.)

FIRST PERSON ACTION, JOURNAL, OR PHONE SAMPLE:
[ A pause. The call hadn't gone through, again, of course. But, still... She at least wanted to say something. Even if it was just to air. She could at least pretend to herself that it's a voice mail. ]

Good morning, Riki! I'm fine so I hope you and everyone are well too. It's been awhile since I got here! I'm in a small town called Inaba. Everyone has been really welcoming and kind. It's a very lovely town! I don't really know why or how I got here but... I hope that maybe one day we can all come to visit here together. I want to be able show everyone in the Little Busters around here!

Wafuu, there's this amazingly difficult challenge they have here! I think Inohara-san and Kyousuke-san would enjoy it! [ Her voice gets a bit more serious here and she puts some thought into it. ] It's called.. "the Rainy Day challenge." There's a Chinese diner here that gives you a huge bowl filled with meat and you have to eat it all! If you eat it then you won't have to pay for it! But, but...! it's so difficult that... my stomach still hurts thinking about it.

[ Despite what she says, she laughs. Even if it was difficult it had still been an experience that she enjoyed and had fun with. But the laugh slowly fades off and she pauses for a bit before speaking again... ]

... Um, Riki? I've been trying really hard. That's okay, right? I'll keep doing my best so--

[ "I'll come back home soon." Is what she had wanted to say but unfortunately for Kud she hadn't been paying attention to where she was walking. This lead up to her walking into a pole. Thus further proving why you should pay attention to where you're going, folks. ]

Wa, wafuuu--! Teriburu akishudento...!

(There's also this bit of a thread here)

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:

It's to be expected. Every once in a while, the upper class men would come to greet her. Of course, they would expect her to do or say something "interesting." Well, what was interesting to them was the fact that despite her foreign appearance her mannerisms were closer to that of a Japanese person. It's strange for someone with a foreign appearance to carry their own chopsticks around with them. It's strange for someone who apparently traveled around the world to not be fluent in speaking English.

It's strange.

Kud knew that. So she really can't blame them for their treatment of her. It's not their fault and she knows that. But, still, she can't deny that it stings a little. So she gets nervous whenever they approach her about it.

"Hey, hey~ Say something!" This is a senpai that she's spoken to before. But she's with another friend today that she doesn't recognize so that explains why she's speaking to her again.

"Eh? Umm... Ha, Haro—" Oh, no. She's nervous and ended up saying it in a monotone voice again. She'll practice again later. But that just amused the two senpai's even more. In between the upper class men girls were saying things like, "Ehhh, this girl is so funny~" or "How cute!" This just made her even more nervous. That's bad. She made another mental note to herself to make sure to work on not getting nervous so easily.

But it's okay. Eventually, like usual, they lose their interest and bid their goodbyes to her. She'll probably see them around or not anymore after this and they might just talk to her again. It's not like she can really blame them, though. When you're interested in something you just want to look at it and test it out. It'd be a lie if she said she hadn't done the same thing before even if it was directed at an actual person. Those senpai were actually really nice to her in the remaining time she had spent talking to them too.

"I don't believe that there's such a thing as someone who is truly malicious."

This is her belief and there's nothing that can change it. Before she had earnestly tried to learn how to speak English because she didn't want to disappoint those who had expectations of her to appear foreign. But now it's because...

Ring ring ring!

"Wafu?" She's suddenly brought out of thought by the sound of ringing. It's coming from her cellphone. She takes out her cellphone and brings looks at the number that's calling her on the screen: Riki. Her face instantly lights up and she quickly answers the call happily.

"Haroo, Riki!"

See? She can say it semi-properly at least! She'll need to learn English after all if she wants to improve and become a Cosmonaut like her mother. And, she's not alone. There's Riki and everyone on the Little Busters. And the time she spends with them will definitely help her grow stronger as life goes on.
